'Singing in the Rain!' : What to Do When It Rains On Your Wedding Day

Updated: Aug 25, 2022

Rain on your wedding day doesn't have to be a disaster. After all, they say rain on your wedding day brings good luck! Some outdoor venues, like us, have backup plans to move things inside in case this were to happen. There is almost always a chance of rain on your wedding day, no matter what time of the year it is. You just never know when the rain is going to come, and unfortunately you can't control it.

Back-up Plan

No matter where your venue is, you want to be sure they have a backup plan in the event it rains. If you planned to have an outdoor wedding and an indoor reception, would you be able to have the ceremony where the reception is supposed to be? For example, we would be able to flip the reception hall pretty quickly to be used for the ceremony if it were to rain. Some places even have an extra reception hall that you also may be able to use for your ceremony. Renting a tent is also an option, depending on your venue.

Embrace It

The last thing you want is to let the rain bring you down. It is not the end of the world, we promise. If there is even a slight chance of rain on your wedding day, plan ahead and buy fun rain boots and umbrellas for the wedding party to take cute pictures in. Get that first kiss as a married couple under an umbrella for a unforgettable picture. You will be able to look back and realize the rain didn't completely ruin the day!

Rain Accessories

Be prepared with some rain accessories for the wedding party and guests. Have plenty of umbrellas on hand for most or all people attending your wedding. One of our favorites are the clear bubble umbrellas - they look great for photos. Ponchos for your guests to stay dry are ideal. You don't want their clothes getting soaking wet, then they have to sit in wet clothes until the end of the night. Also have plenty of towels on hand to wipe off chairs and for your guests to use to dry off with. Remember, it is always better to be over-prepared than under-prepared.

It's okay to be upset, but don't let it ruin your mood for the entire day. Shake it off and realize there is nothing you can do. After all, this is one of the happiest days of your life. Embrace it!
